Domestic Tourists Flock to Bali for Holiday
Domestic tourists have flooded the paradise island of Bali during the year-end holidays, with daily arrivals doubling to 9,000 visitors, Antara reported on Sunday.
M. Dimyati, spokesman for airport management company Angkasa Pura, said the largest number of domestic arrivals at Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai Airport was from Jakarta and Surabaya. He added almost all domestic airlines had added flights to Bali to accommodate the increasing number of passengers.
Over the past six days, domestic arrivals have increased by 13 percent compared to the same time last year. “Arrivals of domestic tourists have increased drastically, especially in the past two days. That could be the peak of domestic arrivals in Bali during the Christmas holidays,” Dimyati said.
He added Ngurah Rai Airport had also recorded an increase in the number of foreign tourists arriving at the resort island, but did not provide any figures, saying only the biggest number was recorded last Monday, when 9,230 foreign tourists touched down at the airport.
“Foreign arrivals jumped to 9,655 last Monday. After that, it’s back to normal,” he said.
