Western Australia’s seven Miss Universe finalists will jet off to Sydney on Monday to battle some of the most beautiful women in the country for the title of Miss Australia. And they’ll do it ultra-fit and tanned after an intensive four-day bootcamp in Bali designed to knock them into shape for the national beauty pageant battle.

This was the year to enter Miss Universe, with WA competition organisers Troy Barbagallo and Greg Erskine treating the finalists to a range of fabulous activities.

The seven traveled to Bali to top up their tans, tone up their figures and relax. Finalist Lia Tapper said though there had been plenty of time for relaxation at the secluded Bali resort where the girls were each treated to a private villa with private pool each, the training had been intense. “We have been going to boxing every night for about three weeks, and doing circuit training,” she said. “But the training was more extreme in Bali, especially with the humidity.”

The group stayed at the stunning Karma Kandara Resort in Uluwatu, where a 300-step outdoor staircase leads down to the beach – providing an intense workout. Erskine, Barbagallo and Barbagallo’s partner and model Sophia Ulgiati put them through their paces in demanding boxing sessions.

The finalists have been studying world events, learning how to make a good first impression, practising public speaking and deciding which issues they are most passionate about in preparation for the question and answer portion of the competition. They will compete in the final on Wednesday. “We were so nervous for the Perth final because we had no idea what to expect,” Tapper said. “Now we are just excited to get to the national final.”
