World Cultural Heritage Need Management Institution
Three area in Bali province that are Pakerisan river, Jatiluwih and Taman Ayun is keep continued to be optimized as World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. This status demands the formation of management institution in order to watch over its existence. Related to that thing, director general of History and Archeology institution from Cultural and Tourism Department held socialization about World Cultural Heritage at Bumi Asih Hotel on Thursday, December 17th.
Director General of History and Archeology’ Cultural and Tourism Department, Drs. Hari Untoro Dradjat in his explanation said that the struggle of those three locations fulfilled its part passing World Cultural Heritage (WCH) qualification is went through a long way. It was suggested in 2002 and already has number in UNESCO. In its process, still lot of conditions have to be fulfilled one of them is the existence of management institution if they passed the qualification. Principally, Bali wants to sets out the cultural landscape that is Subak who has already known worldwide. WCH suggestion concerning this category is in fact rather difficult. Considering UNESCO once had set Philippine for the same category but according to the social change happened suddenly in demand of its rapid tourism development makes everything uncontrollable. This will threaten our neighborhood and damage the harmony of the nature.
That should become a precious lesson for Bali in order to commit themselves in protecting the nature especially for those which will become WCH. Untoro has believes toward Balinese with their Tri Hita Karana concept related to the environment preservation. Untoro reminded, together with the increasing of economic interest there will be a hard and greater challenge followed the environment preservation effort. “I believe, the concept of Tri Hita Karana belongs to the Balinese could deal with every challenges,” he added. There is confidence related to this WCH management that it could convince UNESCO to settled those three as World Cultural Heritage.
Bali Governor in his speech read by the head of Cultural Institution, Dr. IB Sedhawa, S.E. M.Si wished for in 2010, those three location will be settled as World Cultural Heritage. Therefore, it is urgently needed a management institution for the preserve existence of that WCH. It should be managed by independent institution with complementary characteristic, consists of academicians, bendesa – head village –, private component of LSM – Community Social Institution – Besides conducting conservation, this management institution would also educating and developing the society to keep preserve the WCH environment. Because, after all the challenge which accompanied WCH will be more tough due to the raising of economic interest.
