Bali People Afraid of the Big Wave
Most of the people who lived at the Bali’s south beach area confessed that they are worried of the big wave with strong wind.
“The big wave came with 1.5 to 2 meter in height since the beginning of this week. It does make most of the people lived at the south area of the island get anxious,” said Made Runa (58) one of the public figure at Lebih Beach area, Gianyar Regency on Wednesday.
Runa who also a fisherman at that area confessed that there is not merely an anxiety toward the emergence of big waves only worried will sweep their settlement but that big wave also prohibit them from sailing.
“Most of our partner chose not to sail anymore. They now have to tie their boats ashore wait for the wave to subside,” he said.
Not merely at Lebih beach, most of the people who get settled at Sanur Beach and Jimbaran also admitted that they since last night couldn’t sleep well.
“As soon as the waves crashing with a roar, our family could suddenly wake up. We afraid that there will be tsunami,” said Nyoman Rudia (45), Sanur citizen who also owner of a souvenir shop at that beach.
Rudia confessed that before tsunami hit several areas, his family never once feels worried facing the big wave that occasionally appears at the south beach of Bali.
“Previously, we never give our concern toward the wave. No matter how big it was, we just thought it’s a common thing to happen. But now, as soon as the wave crashed the whole family could get panicked,” he said.
Related to people’s anxiety toward this tsunami, Kabid Humas Polda Bali kombes Pol Gde Sugianyar who contacted separately urge for the people not too easy to get panic.
“The people should not get panic so easily, since it actually could harm them or others,” he said.
Nonetheless, he continued, his party also suggested for the people not to reduce their awareness.
Kabid Humas mentioned, in order to anticipate tsunami, his party had coordinated with local BMG – Meteorology and Geophysics Institution – office.
So, as he continued, if there is an earthquake potentially triggers tsunami, BMG’s party will straightly contacted police force of Bali.
Furthermore, police officers who will go straightly into the scene remind the people to move fast and flee from that area that estimated will get strike by the tsunami, said Sugianyar.
