Security Checks from US Secret Service before Obama Arrival

One team from United States Secret Service (USSS) on Friday checked places to be visited in Bali by their president, Barack Obama. A team consists of 12 member for the USSS also visited the regional police command headquarters that day to collect information regarding the security situation on the island. They were welcomed by the chief of the regional police command, Inspector General Sutisna and some of his subordinates.

Sutisna said after the closed-door meeting that the team had come to check the island readiness for President Obama’s plan to visit Bali.

“We explained to them about the security preparations and they eventually praised a number of measures that we have taken,” he said.

He said that his expert team members who are in various fields had met him specially to conduct coordination in relation with the security procedures. President Obama is scheduled to stay in the Nusa Dua tourist resort while in Bali. He is to visit Uluwatu Temple in Badung and Besakih Temple in Karangasem.

Therefore, Sutisna said, the police would tighten security on a number of land routes will be passed by President Obama in addition to other tourist objects to be visited by him.

The meeting lasted for almost two hours but none of the team members would later speak to press.

Regarding the police’s tasks he said the police would be in the third ring while the second ring would be occupied by the military.

“The first ring will be controlled by a security team from the White House,” he said.

The US security team is an advance team while other security teams would follow.
