World Silent Day Supported by 6.800 Signatures
Several activists on Sunday (March 14), conducting mobilize signature gathering action fight for World Silent Day campaign.
A campaign fighting for World Silent Day by various environment activists component in Bali is decided will be done on March 21, 2010 or after Nyepi Day (March 16) had achieved 6.800 signatures.
“The action to mobilize support through signatures will be fill with on-street singing activity, oration and spreading brochures about climate change,” said action coordinator, I Gusti Ayu Fransiska Kusuma Dewi from collaboration for climate change “Bali Collaboration on Climate Change” in Denpasar, Sunday.
Since early in the morning, those environment activists joined in “Bali Collaboration” will continued their action at Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali Bajra Sandi in Puputan Renon field that almost every holiday is filled with people who get exercise.
According to Siska, his party intentionally chose to perform cultural performance such as on-street singing which sang for songs with environment theme in order to attract attention as well as entertain the people whilst asking for their signature from those who willingly to give it.
It is not possible for lots of youth generation, bicycles community in Denpasar who get interested. “There were lots of students from Solo, Mid Java who give their signatures,” she said.
Bali Collaboration will keep utilizing every chance they get to gain society support, with a hope that until the last day of their campaign, that is on March 20, at least there will be 10 million signatures.
Through at least ten million signatures, hope that United Nation will determine to acknowledge “World Silent Day” which idea is taken from Nyepi by Hindus in Bali. This movement will keep held until a day before World Silent Day actually take place whilst conducting lots of activities. “We planned for bicycle rally and clean for waste in the river close to the Jalan Hasanuding,” Siska said.
In a campaign held for more than three hours, everything looks to run smoothly although there was delayed due to the road closure at that area in regard with praying activity by Hindus before Nyepi Day.
Siska added that according to the target in Indonesia only, they have to gather 10 million signatures, so Kolaborasi Bali – Bali Collaboration – has to work harder to gain public support. One action conducted by those activists as part of varied LSM – public institution – in Bali care for the environment was through the use of mask closing nose and mouth.
“This is our way to attract people attention so they would come at will and support World Silent Day campaign,” she said.
