Environmental Destruction in Bali Still going to Happen

Wahana Lingkungan Hidup (Walhi) Bali territory decided functionary change in Pertemuan Daerah Lingkungan Hidup (PDLH) – Environmental Regional Meeting – held Saturday (April 3). As for the elected one is I Gusti Putu Arthadana from Pokja Bali shanty as the executive director of Walhi Bali replacing Agung Wardana who get resign.

Agung should go to England this April since he received educational scholarship for master degree of environmental law.
Arthadana, the elected executive director who will hold this position up to 2014 said that he will consistent in advocating the development who destruct Bali environment.

“I also want to create Banjar Walhi in Bali to accustom environmental destruction issues that keep raising among people,” he said after delivering his vision and mission as a director candidate.

Arthadana beat another candidate, Komang Arya Ganaris.

According to Arthadana, Bali environmental destruction will keep happen in the future due to the power of investment and the weakness of supervision toward people who shifting their land function.

Regional meeting attended by 35 Walhi members both individually or as an organization.

Walhi, as a community organization has 8 members LSM – social institution – and local community in Bali through varied of traffic issue that also interested in advocating environment issue.

Consists of PBHI Bali, Mitra Bali, LBH Bali, LIMAS, Reksa Semesta, LP3B, Ashram Gandipuri, Bali Santi and more that forty individual member around Bali.
Agung Wardana in his report mentioned Bali facing environmental destruction threat.

“Most of it is green land shifting function into a tourism or hotel facilities that violates spatial regulation,” said Agung.
During his two years reign as a director, environmental issues keep appear and advocated, for instance was a support for CAtur Desa that against Nusa Bali Abadi co., Anantara co., investment in Dasong Forest, Buyan and Tamblingan Lake.

Support for fishermen displaced due to the local conflict, support for fabled access justice as well as walker toward humanist city space in provincial spatial regulation, and many other.

In that occasion also, member of WALHI Bali attended agreed to maintain organization mandate resulted in the last PDLH 2008.

The mandates are: build strong WALHI Bali; encourage good governance that support environmental life and people; support people fight against environmental injustice.
Besides elected the new WALHI Bali director, PDLH also chose Wayan Gendo Suardana, Agus Suwesnawa, Andi Astina, Made Surya Putra and Agung Putradhyana as WALHI Bali Regional Council 2010-2014.
