Indonesian Republic Minister of Forestry hope for the meeting of thirteenth countries whose area inhabited by tiger will be able to produce recovery plan toward tiger existence in the world and formed it as an agreement among countries for that animal preservation, including within it is Sumatera tiger (panthera tigris sumatrae).

That meeting also expected could raise tiger population in the world become twice of it in 2022, thus as delivered by Republic Indonesia Minister of Forestry in a press conference of “Pre Tiger Summit Partners Dialogue Meeting” in Nusa Dua Bali, on Monday.

Besides, through that activity also there will be concept formulation for “Declaration of Heads of the States” that will be discussed in a high conference between heads of states in Russia, next September.

Nowadays, tiger existence is in a critical condition. Tiger species around the world remain merely 3.200, covering six sub species of Sumatera, Bengal, Amur, Indochina, South China and Malaya tiger.

The biggest threats for their extinction are the disappearance or fragmentation of their uncontrollable habitat, natural prey decrease (pig and deer), illegal hunting and trading (America and Europe), as well as conflict with the people live around the tiger habitat.

Subspecies tiger in Indonesia, which is Sumatera tiger, its population today is around 400 tigers. Sumatera tiger habitat reduced almost 50 percent within the last 25 years.

Around 70 percent of the remaining habitat situated outside the conservation area spread at least on 20 isolated forest area. The condition that is makes Indonesia as the key country for world tiger preservation.

“Through saving the tiger, we not merely saving the protected animal but also saving their habitat,” said the Director of Conservation Biodiversity, Dr. Ir. Harry Santoso.

Like what had been taught in one of Hindu teaching (Sutasoma) that mentioned, well tiger population is an indicator for healthy forest since tiger need wide habitat and lots of prey.

Good forest not only brings advantageous and welfare for the people lived around this area but also could give benefit as water absorption area, plain water supplier, food and medicine resources.

Besides, it also gives big contribution toward the decrease of global warming which caused earth’s climate change.
